Mt. Defiance

Sep. 23, 2007
8:40-11:40--11:45-2:05
12 miles rt and 3400 ft gain

Starting early in the foggy road, I reached the summit easily. One does walk faster if there is nothing to distract.

Camp Muir

10:30-3:15 --- 4:00-6:15
9.3 miles rt, 4836 ft gain

It's a very beautiful weekend. We decide to have a hike to Camp Muir because it might be the last chance to hike Camp Muir this year.

Comparing with the same hike I did last year in middle August, this time there is much less snow. One can hike along the ridges/rock scrambles till roughly the altitude of 9000 feet. The last stretch on the snow was still very hard. I basically need to have a rest every 50 steps.

Overall, I felt that it's less tiring for me this time. I have more time enjoying the views.

Olympic NP

Sep. 3, 2007
Sol Duc Fall Tainl

We went to Olympic NP with two new friends. It's cloudy in Hurricane Ridge.

We visited the Elwha Valley. It's fun to see a group of people "rafting" on their air mattress.
It's raining around Lake Crescent. The view of the lake under the rain is actually quite amazing.
We came to the Sol Duc hot spring area. The density of people in the pool reminds me of the scenes I saw in China. People do not like hike in the rain. But hiking in the rain in a rain forest is a different story. At least we enjoyed the short hike to Sol Duc falls.
